The performer explains that inside one egg there is a gold coin or ring (or some other item of the performer's choosing) while the other four eggs have nothing in them.
Four spectators each freely select an egg. After the four spectators have made their selections, the last egg is left for the performer. The four spectator's eggs are "cracked open" to reveal nothing is inside. When the performer's egg is opened, it is found to contain the gold coin!
